Building Skills
Outdoor learning is now part of daily life at Chadlington Primary School and our children tell us that they love it!
The changing seasons provide a stunning backdrop to learning in the eco-garden and glasshouse. The children have been busy planting winter vegetables and our beds are now full of young plants, including broccoli, leeks and spring onions. In the glasshouse, our peas and lettuces are flourishing. We have been thinking about the challenges of growing garlic over winter, as we have found out that it doesn't thrive in wet ground. To solve the problem, children have been researching the benefits of a cold frame, measuring available space and working out costs.
As well as developing their Maths skills, pupils have been learning how to work scientifically. The Wizards are carrying out an investigation to find out if plants need soil to grow. They will be observing their results carefully over the next few weeks.
To help them learn to make careful observations, the children have been making some detailed studies of the spring bulbs that they will be planting.
Tiffin is one and a half years old now. She loves exploring the world with her friends and they make sure that she doesn't need a bath when she gets home!
